Production Version of the Mercedes-Benz EQG Spied In Full Camo
Giancarlo Perlas March 18, 2023After a long wait, we might finally see the production version of the Mercedes-Benz EQG electric vehicle (EV) before 2023 ends. Recently, the prototype of the unit was spied on during cold climate testing, which provides us with major clues about the things we can expect from it.
The spy video here shows the EQG sporting an inventive camouflage pattern that heavily indicates its fully electric powertrain. However, the cover’s heavy contrast with the environment that the SUV is in gives a good hint of its key features.
Exterior Design
First off, the overall layout of the spied EQG is not that different from its concept form unveiled at the Munich Auto Show in 2021. It carries the same boxy body accentuated by rigid body lines and rounded LED headlamps derived from the G-Class.
It strangely possesses slits in its fascia, however, that suggest it may be getting an actual front grille instead of the concept’s illuminated nose consisting of a LED matrix. But then again, it may only be a false panel to hide its real design.
Interior Design
Although the spy video here does not give us a clear view of the EQG’s interior, earlier spy shots released by several sources already tell us that its cockpit will almost mirror the configuration of its gasoline-fed counterpart. It keeps the dual screens stretching from the driver’s side to the center of the dashboard.
Then, the EV also takes the same twin-bladed, three-spoke, multifunction steering wheel as well as the turbine-inspired air conditioning vents. Likewise, the styling of the upholstery remains the same.
Powertrain
There’s no official information about the powertrain of the upcoming EQG yet. Based on reports though, it will come with four electric motors, featuring one motor for each wheel in its ladder-frame chassis.
Another interesting highlight of the EV is its tank turn mode, allowing it to turn 360 degrees without leaving its spot similar to how modern tanks maneuver themselves.
Debut
As mentioned earlier, the Mercedes-Benz EQG is scheduled to make its world premiere by year’s end as a 2024 model-year unit.
