Electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class Makes Its World Premiere In LA And Beijing

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has greatly evolved from its military background to a status symbol for the Who’s Who of different industries, especially in the entertainment sector and the political arena. This year marks another milestone for the cultural icon of the three-pointed star marque as it just simultaneously held the world premiere of its new electric model at a Franklin Canyon Park event and the Beijing Auto Show.
The electric G-Class already made its soft launch at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last January. However, the key specifications of the auto weren’t detailed at that point, except for the revolutionary tank-turn functionality that allows it to rotate 720 degrees without leaving its spot, transparent hood feature, and off-road cockpit.
The new offering of the range that made its world premiere in LA and Beijing came in the guise of G 580, which presented itself as the electric alternative to the petrol-chugging G 550 equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine. The electrified G-Wagen packed four electric motors powered by a 116-kWh lithium-ion battery fused in its ladder frame.
The power unit of the G 580 allows it to deliver up to 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque. There are no official figures about the electric vehicle’s (EV) acceleration times at the moment, but in comparison, the 2025 G 550 with 443 hp and 412 lb-ft of torque can cover 0 to 60 mph in mere 5.3 seconds, so the same run by its electrified model should be a bit somewhere north of the figures. Meanwhile, the electric range of the model from full charge should be around 240 miles.
The other notable features of the electric G 580 include its infotainment system with driver display and central multimedia touchscreen measuring 12.3 inches each.
