2012 DTM: Halfway Exhibition Events at Munich
Ryan Joseph Ramos July 12, 2012We’ve reached the halfway point of the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, which means it’s time to hit the Olympic Stadium in Munich for a reprisal of the non-championship scoring event that started last year. The Mercedes-Benz DTM teams are all preparing for the event, and looking to make it a springboard for more success for the latter half of the season.
Right now, Mercedes-Benz is ahead of the pack in every aspect—after the first 5 races, the automaker is ahead in the constructors’ standings, Gary Paffett is at the top of the drivers’ points, and HWA Team is leading the teams’ championship.
The 2-day event at the Olympic Stadium will have no bearing, but it will still be a good showcase for the teams and for the fans. There will be a new layout for this year’s event, and the Saturday race will be in a new relay format. The participating manufacturers will each field teams of 2 drivers. On the other hand, the Sunday event will see exciting head-to-head races featuring all 22 DTM drivers.
“We’re aiming to reward the fans in Munich for their great support this season and to lay on a feast of motor racing in the Olympic Stadium,” said Paffett.
