AMG ONE Breaks Its Own Record

On September 23, German motorsports driver and AMG brand ambassador Maro Engel once again took the AMG ONE on the 20.832-kilometer endurance track. This time, the Formula 1 technology-based hypercar logged a time of 6:29.090, beating its previous record by over five seconds.

The event also marked the first for a series hybrid supercar to take on the world’s most demanding racetrack and beat the magic mark of 6:30 minutes. TÜV Rheinland officially measured and notarized the figures in accordance with the Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co KG standards.

Preparing for the Challenge

AMG CEO Michael Shiebe was pleased with their recent achievement and thanked his team for it. He explained that when they took on the challenge in 2022, the track was less than ideal, and some of its sections were damp. He claimed they could have done more, and the vehicle wasn’t able to display its full potential back then.

According to Mercedes, Engel and his team meticulously prepared for the event. This included spending significant time in AMG’s driving simulator in Affalterbach and on the Nordschleife circuit while scheduling the feat at the track’s ideal conditions.

To make the most out of the AMG ONE’s hybrid powertrain, he utilized the car’s regenerative braking system on the right corners to keep the battery juiced. The veteran driver employed a “lift and coast” approach in conjunction with the hypercar’s four-stage Energy Flow Control (EFC) system.

AMG used Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tires specially designed for the 1,049 hp hypercar. Complementing its gear are track temperatures ranging 15 degrees Celsius (air) and 20 degrees Celsius (asphalt). The dry track condition provided the best grip for the AMG One.
