Mercedes F1 Aims For Net Zero Carbon Emissions By 2040

This makes it the first motorsport team to join prestigious companies that have vowed to reach Net Zero carbon emissions on the way to 2040.
What is The Climate Pledge?
The Climate Pledge was co-founded by Global Optimism and Amazon in 2019. It now has 465 companies from 41 countries among its signatories.
The pledge aligns with the goals agreed upon in the Paris Agreement. However, instead of the deadline set by the cooperation in 2050, it advances it by a decade to 2040.
Signing the agreement reflects the three-pointer star marque’s commitment toward a sustainable future. As a member, it will be required to be transparent in enforcement of decarbonization strategies and they should furnish the alliance with quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially advantageous offsets.
Mercedes F1 Team Principal and CEO’s Statement
“Signing The Climate Pledge is another demonstration of our intent to perform to the highest standard on sustainability,” Mercedes F1 Team Principal and CEO Toto Wolff stated. “We want to win through sustainable high performance, and to win within the societal and planetary boundaries which exist.”
“The ability to collaborate with many of these leading organizations, striving for the same goal, offers considerable benefits for all signatories,” he added. The Mercedes F1 head honcho also disclosed utilizing alternative fuels for land and air travel.
In 2022, he said they were able to offset over 2,600 total carbon dioxide content (TCO2) by investing in Sustainable Aviation Fuel via its book and claim model, which helped them cut 21% of their air travel emissions. Additionally, their shift to HVO100 biofuel for their race and hospitality trucks as well as generators during the course of the 2023 European season decreased their discharge by 339 TCO2.
