Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV Caught On Cam During Road Test
Giancarlo Perlas December 22, 2023A prototype suspected to be a Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV was recently spotted testing on the road. The new model is expected to be unveiled by 2025.
Mercedes-Benz Going Electric on the C-Class
Mercedes-Benz has a self-imposed deadline to go all-electric in its vehicle offerings by 2030. However, the company later softened its stance towards it by saying it would only go full blast in its goal “where market conditions allow.”
Nevertheless, we have been seeing great strides from the iconic luxury automaker in the EV department. The latest Concept CLA EV, in particular, is a sign that Mercedes is now absorbing fully electrified vehicles in its core series.
With that, it just makes sense that the C-Class is next. The new spy shots here are confirmation that Mercedes is heading in that direction next.
Although the car in the spy shots is heavily covered in a zebra-patterned camouflage, the familiar sights of the testing area suggest it’s indeed a Mercedes. Despite some alterations, its overall form is unmistakably that of the C-Class. It’s also hard to spot the charging port of the prototype, but its lack of an exhaust system reaffirms its status as an EV.
Expected Key Features
Details about the C-Class EV are still under wraps. Based on deduction, however, it’s likely riding on the MMA platform for electric cars just like the one found on the Concept CLA EV. If we’re right, the C-Class EV will most probably inherit the 466-mile range of its CLA brethren.
So, what will differentiate the C-Class EV from the CLA EV? We believe that the former will sport more sophistication because of its position in the Mercedes hierarchy, which is closer to the E-Class and S-Class. The other will still have luxurious features but it might be angled toward a more compact look for a sedan.
The resulting shift of Mercedes’ EV models to its core series will possibly lead to the eventual demise of the EQ branding.
