HWA Announces Restomod Plan For The Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II
Giancarlo Perlas November 23, 2023German motorsport and engineering firm HWA is set to resurrect the iconic Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II, bringing the legendary performance sedan into the modern era. Unlike its counterparts, Mercedes-Benz has often been overlooked in the realm of restomods, but HWA is aiming to change that narrative with a restomod project that promises to attract automotive enthusiasts.
A Nod to Racing Heritage
The roots of this venture trace back to Mercedes’ decision to compete in the DTM, leading to the birth of the 190E Evo I. HWA, known for its motorsport expertise and experience, is now gearing up for a restomod project based on the Evo II, a model steeped in racing history.
The original 190 Evo II, a homologation series born out of racing necessity, featured a 2.5-liter engine delivering 232 horsepower, making it the most potent member of the 190E family.
Modernizing a Legend
HWA is set to breathe new life into this racing legend, committing to a limited run of 100 units, each undergoing a substantial modernization. While specific details on the upgraded model are yet to be disclosed, the company promises significant enhancements to the powertrain, chassis, brakes, aerodynamics, and safety.
The concept of the reborn Evo II showcases a sleek sports sedan, subtly redesigned and adorned with a prominent rear wing.
A Price Tag for Exclusivity
As with its predecessor, exclusivity comes at a cost. HWA has announced a starting price of 714,000 Euros without VAT, translating to approximately $780,500. The ambitious price tag reflects the extensive upgrades and the exclusiveness of this restomod project.
HWA is actively exploring a partnership with Curated, a US-based restomod company, to leverage their expertise in developing and producing the 190E Evo II for the modern automotive connoisseur.
