Mercedes-Benz Celebrates 22 Millionth Vehicle Produced
Giancarlo Perlas February 9, 2023The 22 millionth Mercedes-Benz vehicle was just rolled out from the three-pointed star marque’s assembly plant. The car coinciding with the milestone is an EQS 580 4MATIC in MANUFAKTUR hyacinth red metallic finish produced from the Sindelfingen plant of the German luxury car maker.
According to a press release from Mercedes-Benz Group Media, the brand’s Sindelfingen plant opened in 2015. It was initially utilized as an aircraft factory until Daimler-Motor-Gesellschaft (DMG) officially produced its first car there.
The first vehicle to be produced in the plant was the Mercedes-Knight 16/45 hp tourer. However, the recording of the vehicles produced there only began in 1946. Therefore, it’s safe to say that there may be more than 22 million autos already produced there in actuality.
Fast-forward to the present, Factory 56 in Sildelfingen is now home to the EQS electric vehicle and the S-Class including its hybrid, Guard, and Maybach models. The GLC, GLE, CLS, and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door all originate there, too.
In addition, the area serves as the location of Mercedes’ Research, Development, and Design division. Currently, there are 35,000 people employed there.
Together with the milestone is a major leap in the number of S-Class units sold to customers. In 2022, the deliveries of the flagship car of Mercedes went up by 5% to a total of over 90,000 units sold.
The EQS is showing a robust market as well. In that same year, the flagship EV of the company saw 19,200 deliveries to customers. The numbers are primarily attributed to the strong demand for EVs in the US.
