How To Successfully Soft Reset The MBUX Infotainment System

Giancarlo Perlas February 13, 2023

MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) is now standard equipment in current Mercedes-Benz models. While it certainly works well in helping users manage the entertainment, navigation, driver assistance, performance settings, safety elements, and other features of their luxury vehicles, it’s in no way 100% foolproof. Glitches may be experienced from it at random moments. Luckily, there’s a quick way to resolve this issue via a quick MBUX soft reset.

Why Soft Reset the MBUX Infotainment System

The information provided here definitely comes in handy when your MBUX infotainment system is malfunctioning. Similar to the experience of the user in the video, it may include a black screen, flickering screen, distorted display, non-functioning controls, freezing apps, or no power going through the ports, among others.

Easy Steps to Soft Reset Your MBUX Infotainment System

The method here only shows you how to do a soft reset if the problem is only confined to a glitch within the software. This will not serve as a way to repair malfunctions stemming from failing or damaged electrical components though.

To do this, start by locating the Favorites button of your car. It should be on the side of the touchpad of your Mercedes, and it has a star icon on it. Then, look for the Telephone button labeled as “TEL” on the opposite side.

Simply press the two together. Hold the buttons until the display reboots, which will show you the Mercedes-Benz logo. It usually takes 10 seconds before the process completes.

The video below displays how easy it is to accomplish this:

If It Does Not Work

As mentioned earlier, the method shown here only works if the problem is due to a software glitch. If the issue persists or is intermittently triggering after this, be sure to consult your Mercedes dealership or trusted mechanic about the matter.

At this point, your MBUX may need to be updated or factory reset if the software problem is serious. However, if the mechanic detects malfunctioning components that may be affecting its system or hardware, the failing parts may need to be repaired or replaced depending on the circumstances.
