Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabrio Spied at the Nurburgring Track
Giancarlo Perlas September 7, 2022It’s clear by now that the Mercedes-Benz CLE will be replacing both the coupe and cabrio variants of the C-Class and E-Class. The car is unrelenting in its testing as it is expected to make its debut before the year ends as a 2023 model year series.
The spy video here still shows the CLE in full camo but there are clear indications of its features beneath the covers based on its bulges, dents, and peeking areas. First off, it’s clear that what we are looking at is the cabrio version because it is lacking the taut top shown by another version that we have been seeing, which is obviously the coupe. This one has a loose roof fabric noticeably concealing the true soft top of the cabrio.
Next, the radiator grille design with horizontal louvers suggests that what we are looking at is a Benz model as AMG cars are easily identified with their Panamericana grille styling with vertical slats. The CLE here appears to have the same form and stance as the E-Class, too, which means it may be more of an E-Class offshoot than a C-Class. Likewise, although not seen in the video, we expect nothing less than the same tech and detailing found in the interior of the E-Class for the CLE.
On the other hand, many automotive publications are betting that the CLE will get the same powertrain options as the current C-Class. With that, one of the Benz trims will likely have a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque while the AMG will probably get a 402 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque in the CLE 43 trim.
