2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Crossover SUV Unveiled

After a long wait and a series of teasers, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV has finally been revealed. It appears that the three-pointed star marque is doubling down its chips on this new generation of the series as its outgoing model just made it as the best-selling Mercedes today.
There’s probably a lot of pressure right now for the people in Stuttgart because they need to maintain the momentum of the range in the market and make sure the new one does not disappoint buyers. With that, let’s take a look at the key features of the crossover SUV and see whether or not the successor can live up to the hype:
Powertrain
In Germany, the GLC is available in GLC 200 4MATIC, GLC 220d 4MATIC, GLC 300 4MATIC, GLC 300e 4MATIC, GLC 300de 4MATIC, and the GLC 400e 4MATIC. However, MBUSA had the lineup streamlined to only include the GLC 300 4MATIC and the GLC 300 RWD. Therefore, the latter is missing out on the plug-in hybrid, diesel, and a combination of the two but insiders say that the PHEV model of the auto is currently under discussion if it will be offered on the US soil.
The GLC 300 is powered by a 2.0-liter mild-hybrid inline-four engine producing 258 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The EQ boost adds 23 hp and 148 lb-ft torque upon acceleration. The power is distributed via a nine-speed automatic transmission to either a rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive system. The setup allows the vehicle to speed up from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds and maxing out at 130 mph (electronically limited).
Design
The new GLC follows the signature design of its predecessor. However, the exterior of the 2023 model SUV features smoother surfaces with subtle use of body lines to accentuate some of its key areas like the hood and door panels. It also comes with new headlamps that can be optionally upgraded to Digital Light. Likewise, it offers optional running boards for ease of access for the driver and passenger to the cabin.
Drivers and passengers of the GLC are greeted by Mercedes’ signature modern, sport, luxury formula upon entry inside. It is highlighted by posh Nappa leather seats and dual-section dashboard, and twin displays measuring 12.3 inches on the side of the driver and 11.9 inches for the central display.
The aesthetics of the SUV can be further customized through the AMG Line. The added flavor gives a scattered star pattern to the front grille, wheel arch liners, and upsizes the wheels from the standard 18 inches to 20 inches.
Technology
The new GLC comes with the latest generation of Mercedes’ Driving Assistance package with improved functionality for the Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Steering Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and the new Parking package with a 360-degree camera. Lastly, the interior offers a more advanced version of the MBUX infotainment system software with Augmented Reality navigation.
