2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Spied on the Road with So Little Camo Left
Giancarlo Perlas August 16, 2021The next-generation Mercedes-AMG SL continues to tease us by gradually stripping off its camouflage in every spy shot it’s in. Recently, the convertible was seen on the road again with only a little zebra-patterned wrap remaining.
The YouTube channel of walkoART didn’t mention where the new spy video of the AMG SL was taken but it’s likely somewhere in Germany. Like some of its latest spy shots, the car still appears with a little camo covering its fascia, badges on the side and rear portion. The hidden areas usually indicate the locations of the product’s major design overhaul.
According to reports, the new AMG SL will stand as a replacement for the SLC and S-Class convertibles. The vehicle will be solely developed by Mercedes’ high-performance division, so there will no longer be the standard Benz variants for it.
As seen in the spy video, the car is a mishmash of the form of the outgoing SL and SLC coupled with the striking styling elements of the AMG GT Roadster. Taking cues from the GT, the next-gen SL has a more aerodynamic shell, and it sports a smoother body similar to the new Mercedes models. The peeking parts from the covers also suggest that it will get a large Panamericana grille with vertical slats and narrow headlamps similar to the GT. The rear shows a massive rear diffuser and quadruple exhaust tips too.
The AMG SL will probably be offered in SL 43, SL 53, and SL 63 guises. Rumors say that it will get an SL 73e trim as well. The most potent trim is expected to produce at least 800 hp from its mild-hybrid powertrain.
