Opus Automotive is Working on a 1,111-HP Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series
Giancarlo Perlas March 23, 2021The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series still holds the distinction as the fastest road-legal car to ever lap the Nurburgring, but seeing more room for a wild power boost, some tuners have already tinkered with the mechanicals of the auto to surpass its factory-set output. Another tuner looking to do just that is Opus Automotive, which is aiming to give the car a total of 1,111 hp.
Opus Automotive is formerly known as Renntech Europe. It has a workshop near the Nurburgring circuit so we surely would love to see its work test its mettle on the endurance track once it gets completed.
As a recap, the AMG GT Black Series possesses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a flat-plane crank configuration. The setup allows a 720-hp output for the vehicle. Opus Automotive is currently working on the 825 hp kit of the car called the Opus Binary Edition, which is scheduled for April release. The upgrade consists of a software remap for both the engine and transmission control.
Following that is the 920 hp kit also due in April. In addition to the software upgrades, the more powerful package includes modified turbochargers, reinforced gearbox, special forged pistons, reinforced connecting rods, machined cylinder heads, and a reworked fuel system.
The ultimate goal of Opus Automotive though is to bring the car’s output to 1,111 hp. It comes with a 1,001 hp kit too. The range-topping trims of the Opus Binary Edition will be available in June.
To help the AMG GT Black Series manage the extra oomph, the tuner is fitting it with lightweight wheels. The company is working on aerodynamic upgrades for it as well. Furthermore, it is offering new downpipes with sports cats and an electronic flap control system to buff the engine sound of the auto.
