Plug-in Hybrids Now Available On The Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class

Giancarlo Perlas August 20, 2019

Electric power is now available on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class, specifically the A250e, the A250e Saloon, and the B250e models from the compact car family lineup. The cars are now fitted with a third-generation hybrid engine.

The A250e has a combined fuel consumption of 1.5-1.4 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions of 34-33 g/km, and combined electrical consumption of 15.0-14.8 kWh/100 km. The A250e Saloon has a combined fuel consumption of 1.4 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions of 33-32 g/km, and combined electrical consumption of 148 -147 kWh/100 km. The B250e has a combined fuel consumption of 1.6-1.4 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions of 36-32 g/km, and combined electrical consumption of 15.4-14.7 kWh/100 km.

Aside from using electric power that’s suitable for everyday use, the cars also promise to have electric operating ranges of 70-75 km, electric output of 75 kW, system output of 160 kW, system torque of 450 Nm, top speed of 140 km/h (electric) and 235 km/h total for the A-Class Compact Saloon, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds for the A-Class Compact Saloon, and hardly any restrictions on the load compartment.

The source of energy is a lithium-ion high-voltage battery that has a total capacity of 15.6 kWh. It can be charged on an external energy source. The integration of the MBUX infotainment system assists the drivers to find charging stations en route. It understands natural speech so the driver can just say “Hey Mercedes, find charging stations nearby.”

The A 250 e and A 250 e Saloon can be ordered now at prices from €36,943.55 ($41,023.04) and €37,300.55 ($41,419.09). The sale of the B250e will start in a few weeks.
