Porsche Aficionado Magnus Walker Drives The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing
Giancarlo Perlas July 17, 2018It’s not every day you’ll get to see Magnus Walker in a Mercedes-Benz but if he has to drive one, it better be the pristine Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Walker, a Porsche expert and aficionado, drove the 300 SL Gullwing together with his girlfriend Hannah Elliot at the Silvretta Classic Rally this year.
Walker, also known as the Urban Outlaw, would normally drive his Porsche 911 in the Rally. Not this year, though. He took the wheel from Daimler themselves and drove the 300 SL Gullwing around the finest Alpine roads of Austria, which he is visiting for the first time. But aside from Austrian roads, Walker also took the Gullwing for a whirl in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The drive was done during Walker’s 51st birthday, making his participation in the event extra meaningful.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing may be the most iconic vehicle to ever come out of the German automaker’s plant. Introduced back in 1950, it became popular for the unique roof-hinged wing door and the rich racing history. It is the vehicle that has it all—gorgeous proportions, brilliant engineering for the race tracks, and a performance like no other in its time. All of these made the Gullwing one of the most coveted vehicles of all time.
This has made the Gullwing a sought-after vehicle with it being auctioned off in the exclusive Sotheby’s auction house for as much as $6.5 million. With only a handful of these units available, the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center is focused at breathing life to these vehicles.
