Mercedes-AMG C53 Will Be Offered in the Next-Gen C-Class
Giancarlo Perlas June 24, 2018A leaked patent application of Daimler AG for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) suggests that there will be a Mercedes-AMG C53. However, Mercedes-Benz dispelled the rumors that the model will come out within the production life of the current C-Class.
Below the printed copy of Daimler’s pending international trademark application for the WIPO dated June 20, 2018, revealed a “C 53” under the “(540) Mark” category. That would only mean that the German automaker is already working on the Mercedes-AMG C53.
The new offerings of AMG for the E-Class and CLS already include the 53 models. So, we couldn’t help but expect for the C-Class to do the same.
In addition, there exists a huge performance gap between the AMG C43 and C63 lines. The C43 features only a little taste of what AMG has to offer. Many even consider it as too mild for the high-performance division of Mercedes. On the other hand, the C63 may be powerful but its $66,100 starting price may be too steep for most buyers. Therefore, many are looking forward to the C53 closing the void created by the C43 and C63 models. That’s similar to the treatment of Mercedes to the E-Class and CLS.
In an interview with Go Auto, Jerry Stamoulis, Public Relations and Product Communications Manager for Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific, refuted the circulating rumors about the C53. He said that his company is not yet looking to expand the present C-Class range.
The Mercedes exec added that the C43 is enough for the present generation of the C-Class. He pointed out that the C43 is the right package for the range because it is a lot lighter than the E-Class.
