This is What’s Inside the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Driver’s Seat
Giancarlo Perlas April 6, 2018Have you ever wondered what it looks like inside the driver’s seat of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class? Brace yourself as the video here shows its expensive leather getting sliced by a razor. Afterwards, it is taken apart piece by piece.
The video is brought to us by the YouTube channel called “What’s Inside?” Dan, the host of the show, went all the way to Stuttgart, Germany to examine the interior design of the S-Class seat.
Being the flagship car of the Mercedes-Benz brand, the S-Class has a very luxurious cabin. Dan chose a Mercedes-Benz S450 Sedan for his presentation. Each seat of the car is equipped with hot-stone massage function.
According to Johann Buss, Head of Seat Development at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Daimler AG, his team was responsible in the invention of the hot-stone massage function in car seats. It was introduced in the S-Class and called as the “Energizing massage function”.
Basically, the Energizing massage function follows the hot-stone principle, which initially applies heat to the spinal area. Then, the user can choose among the different programs that determine the massage sequence, massage speed and massage intensity in order to get the desired effect or level of comfort.
Dan starts by piercing through the expensive leather of the S-Class’ backrest. This reveals three thin layers of foam beneath the seat’s fabric. Instead of stones, which he expected to find, Dan found air pockets instead.
He went on to further cut the sides where the side air bag is located, which adds protection to the occupant during collisions. Next, pulling the back panel shows the wires and two fans that work together with the air pockets. Stripping the base of the seats also bring us to four more fans below the memory foam.
