Quick Comparison of the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ A and Tesla Model 3

The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ A was just unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The launch of its production version is not clear yet, but Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche pointed out that they are serious in tapping into the electric car market.
“The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ A proves that we are serious about introducing electric mobility throughout the portfolio,” Zetsche said in a statement according to Business Insider.
During the company’s investor day, the Daimler CEO already announced that they are aiming at putting electric versions in all Mercedes models and the smart brand will start focusing on an all-electric lineup. The projected deadline for their goal is 2022.
The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ A Vs Tesla Model 3
The upcoming EQ brand where the concept hatchback will be included is expected to compete with the cars of Tesla. The EQ A will likely be a challenger to the Model 3 of the American EV maker.
Like the Model 3, the EQ A is a compact vehicle that has a five-seating capacity. The EQ A has a wheelbase of 107.4 inches, which is smaller than the Model 3’s 113.2 inches wheelbase. While the Tesla Model 3 has a 220-mile electric range, Mercedes brags that the EQ A will get 250 miles.
The charging of the EQ A is also faster than its rival. The Mercedes compact EV can get 62 miles in 10 minutes in a quick charging station. On the other hand, the Model 3 can only take 55 miles using the same facility in the same duration.
The EQ A boasts an output of over 200 kW while the Model 3 has 192 kW. We don’t have the zero to 60 mph acceleration of the EQ A yet, but its rival can cover that in just 5.6 seconds in its standard model while its Premium version can do it in only 5.1 seconds.
The EQ A features a glass roofing which is offered by the Premium Model 3 too. However, the EQ A stands out from its competitor with its virtual grille, two drive modes namely the Sport and Sport Plus, as well as more advanced lighting system.
