Examining the Engine of the Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar

New details regarding the engine of the Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar was just released by its maker. As reported earlier, the auto will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year.
According to Motor, the Project One will take on the likes of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. AMG CEO Tobias Moers claimed that the auto will be the first street-legal car to carry a Formula One engine.
The AMG hypercar will be equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine matched with electric motors. Each front wheel has an electric motor with 120 kW output. There is also a 100 kW electric motor on the crankshaft and 80 kW electric motor for faster turbocharger response. The electric motors in the front wheels make use of 100 kg lithium-ion batteries with four times the storage capacity found on F1 cars. The petrol engine combined with the electric motors produce up to 735 kW or 1,000 bhp.
The source noted that the electric range of the Project One will likely be around 25 km only. The electric motors are used mainly for boosting the turbochargers.
Another drawback of the F1 V6 engine is that it will require regular maintenance for every 50,000 km. That’s the reason why it is recommended for buyers of the car to get that extra-warranty package offered by AMG.
Only 300 samples of the Mercedes-AMG Project One will be sold in the market. The article claimed that the first 275 examples of the hypercar will be delivered to customers in 2019.
