Mercedes-Benz Sales Display 18% Growth in January 2017

Mercedes-Benz sales started out strong in the month of January 2017. The three-pointed star brand continued its momentum this year after overtaking its rival BMW in the premium car segment in 2016.

According to Daimler, Mercedes-Benz sales reached the 178,467 mark in January. The figure translates to an increase of 18 percent in premium vehicle sales compared to the same month of last year. With the sales of the smart brand added, the company had a total of 188,116 sales last month, which was 17.5 higher than the same period of 2016.

Britta Seeger, a member of the board of Management of Daimler AG and responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales since January 1, 2017, said the double digit increase in sales is another record for the company. She also revealed that the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Saloon, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA are all due for market release this year.

Asia-Pacific had the highest Mercedes-Benz sales in January compared to the other regions of the globe. The area sold a total of 82,583 units with 30.2 percent growth. In China alone, 58,799 vehicles were delivered to customers. The country raised its sales by 39.9 percent.

Europe spiked up its Mercedes sales by 12.3 percent, thanks to the 61,670 vehicles it delivered to customers. On the other hand, North America pulled up its sales by 6.4 percent, selling 30,001 units. Mercedes-Benz USA increased its sales by 3.5 percent through its delivery of 25,527 vehicles to customers.

The E-Class had the highest demand compared to other Mercedes-Benz models in January. The range sold 29,963 saloons and estates, showing a 75 percent higher sales in a prior-year month basis.

The smart brand of Daimler had a slow but steady performance in January. Compared to January 2016, the brand increased its sales by 3.5 percent with a total of 9,649 compact cars sold.
