Daimler announced a new innovation in its smart cars. The company revealed that will be testing a new logistics service for its smart cars.

While shopping online is very easy nowadays, the tricky part of it is mostly in the delivery process. Usually the problem occurs when the buyer is not in his designated address during the time of the delivery. Smart labs aims to solve this issue by allowing their cars to be specified by owners as their delivery address. The brand calls its new service as “smart ready to drop.”

Smart lab is working in cooperation with DHL Paket to put the project into fruition. The beta testing of the program is scheduled in autumn. The testing will begin in Stuttgart followed by Cologne, Bonn and Berlin after a few months.

The project involves fitting the smart cars with a Connectivity Box. Using a dedicated app developed by smart, the drivers of DHL Paket will have a one-time keyless access to the boot of the drop-off car. Therefore, even when the recipient of the parcel is not at home, he can still get his package through his smart car.

Based on the press release of the Daimler, there are several hundred participants per city during the beta testing. The goal of smart lab is to collect information under actual experiences and realistic conditions from the testers.

Participants are entitled with free Connectivity Box retrofit. Interested parties may visit the smart “ready to drop” webpage for more information about the beta testing. Applications for the testing will commence in September.
