According to Daimler, there were more than 40,000 rentals in the first few weeks of car2go operations in Chongqing. The company is known to possess around 400 vehicles in the area. The figures mean that one car2go vehicle is being rented out in the location every 1.7 minutes.
On the other hand, the source also noted that in less than two months, more than 78,000 customers have registered with car2go. The numbers are looking very promising as the biggest car to go locations in Europe and North America have around 100,000 to 130,000 registered customers per city. That is after four to five years of operation the said areas.
With the Chinese cities having traffic that is getting worse lately, car2go has presented a better alternative to the estimated 30 million residents of Chongqing.
The report pointed out that Chongqing is the first car2go location in Asia. The company is operating in the areas of Yubei, Jiangbei and Yuzhong within Chongqing. The units are spread within the 60-kilometer radius of the mentioned places.
The use of the smart fortwo vehicles offered by car2go aims to provide customers savings in terms of parking spaces. In addition, the fuel-efficiency and low emissions of its cars present an environmentally-friendly alternative that will reduce air pollution too. Furthermore, the mobility of the fortwo is helpful in decongesting the worsening traffic conditions of Chongqing.
