Video: Mercedes-Benz E-Class Multibeam LED headlamps

The Multibeam LED headlamps come as an optional add-on in the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Announced officially by Mercedes in 2013 and offered for the first time in the current S-Class model of that period, the feature promised that it would offer flexibility in terms of illumination wherein it would adjust itself depending on a particular situation on the road. It is composed of a group of LED lighting diodes with each part acting individually to enhance targeting and light distribution.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the new Multibeam LED headlamps each come with 84 individually activated high-performance LEDs. These make the car’s illumination of the incoming path or traffic very bright and pretty accurate to the driver.
Despite its excellent lighting, each LED component adjusts itself accordingly to prevent producing glare to approaching motorists in front of the auto. This way, it avoids dazing the incoming driver, which eventually reduces the instances of collisions or other kinds of accidents significantly.
Then the LEDs react too when there are objects that tend to reflect light. For example, the lighting system alters some of its components to ensure that light is not bounced back from an approaching a traffic sign, allowing the driver to read it clearly. This works in a similar manner when the road is wet, wherein it has a high probability to mirror back light sources to the eyes of the driver.
Furthermore, the Multibeam technology lets the headlamps bend their lights during bends in the road. The predictive bend light feature of Mercedes works based on the data fed by the car’s camera.
