After the official unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG GT3, Mercedes insiders and automotive news sources revealed that a road-legal version of the race car is also in the works. The speculations were further fueled by the spy photos of a prototype resembling a road version of the GT3 race car.

For now, people refer to the said prototype as the Mercedes-AMG GT R. Recently, TopSpeed released a rendering of the auto. According to the information of the source, their artist didn’t rely on the spy photos of the car that have been circulating as of late. Instead, they just took the styling of the Mercedes-AMG GT and mated it to a couple of top-tier upgrades just below the Black Series bracket.

Some of the upgrades expected by the source in the Mercedes-AMG GT R concept were the new front spoiler, fins, center and side vents in front, fenders, side skirts, and air openings going to the rear tires. Although only the front angle of the car was shown in the rendering, the article pointed out that it will likely get improved diffuser and tailpipes.

For now, it is not yet clear if Mercedes is really going for the GT R name for the upcoming road version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3. Although Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers hinted about a sports car that will sit on top of the Mercedes-AMG GT, he didn’t disclose its name yet.

There is the possibility as well that Mercedes-AMG may not go with the said name as there is the Nissan GT-R already.
