Mercedes Worried of Mechanical Issues in the Remaining Races
Giancarlo Perlas September 23, 2014The people behind the Formula One team of Mercedes AMG Petronas admitted that they are worried of mechanical issues arising in the remaining races of the 2014 season. It should be noted that both of its drivers have become victim of such problems starting in Australia.
Between the two drivers, Lewis Hamilton had the most frequency of mechanical issues in his W05. On the other hand, Nico Rosberg was the latest victim of a breakdown.
The forced retirement of Rosberg in Singapore Grand Prix denied him of acquiring any points in that event. So, when Hamilton emerged first in the finish line, he was automatically awarded 25 points in his card. The win of the Briton was also a significant one because it elevated him into the first position in the current drivers’ rankings of F1. At present, Hamilton leads the standings with 241 points while Rosberg went down at number two with 238 points. Only three points separate the two Mercedes drivers, but the major tipping point would be another mechanical problem in the next races.
It should be mentioned as well that Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull has been displaying consistent performances lately, and he has three wins under his sleeve. So, if Mercedes screws up again, particularly during the double points race, Ricciardo (with consistent finish not going lower than third place) might improve his rankings above his current place especially if he wins the double points race.
Therefore, Mercedes should keep watch of any mechanical issues as much as possible to avert a possible upset victory by their rival.
