Meet the Mercedes-Benz ‘Vision Golf Cart’
Ryan Joseph Ramos July 22, 2013The Mercedes-Benz Vision Golf Cart is a ‘sculpture on wheels’, says Daimler Design VP Gorden Wagener. That’s thanks to the flow-shaped elements highlighting the design of the fancy new golf cart presented by the German automaker at the 2013 Open Championship golf competition held from July 18-21 in Gullane, Scotland.
In a nutshell, the golf cart sports elements that mix a golf cart and a Mercedes-Benz car’s aesthetics. The design was taken from car enthusiasts as well as golf fans, who sent in designs for a ‘golf cart of the future’. The winner got tickets to the competition held at the Muirfield links.
Among the features of the concept cart (see what we did there?) are touchscreens, a dock for Apple mobile devices, the ability to communicate with other carts on the course, and useful tools like course maps and weather info (likely displayed through the touchscreen displays). The Vision Golf Cart also sports an electric drive and a solar roof panel. The Mercedes-Benz diamond grille helps define the overall look of the golf cart.
Phil Mickelson took home his fifth career major title by coming from behind to win the 2013 Open Championship, which is incidentally the 142nd year of the event. Henrik Stenson went second, and third place featured a tie between Ian Poulter, Adam Scott, and Lee Westwood.
