Mercedes-Benz is reportedly trying to bring in something new with the new C-class model and do away with the concept that it is an old car model. A number of enhancements were made to make the new C-class more appealing to the next generation of car buyers.
The addition of the CLA into the vehicle line-up of the company has resulted to the new emphasis given to the car. Since the CLA will be marketed in the relatively lower-end market, the new C-class will be offered in the higher-end market.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-class will have four models, the saloon, estate, coupé, and the cabriolet model. All four models will also receive enhancements from AMG, which is developing a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine for the C-class.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-class will be 100mm longer than the current model while its wheelbase will also increase by 80mm. With the increased dimension, the interior space of the car will also increase giving more head, shoulder, and leg room both in front and at the back. The increased space will not be limited to the passenger area since the luggage space of the new C-class will also be increased.
The new MRA or modular rear-wheel drive platform of Mercedes will make its debut on the new C-class. The new architecture is expected to make the car even as its size has significantly increased. The new Mercedes-Benz C-class will also feature the latest double wishbone arrangement that offers better wheel control and increased handling. Although the rear will still feature the multi-link system used on the current C-class, its design was enhanced to a significant degree.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-class will feature the longitudinally-mounted engines, which will be located at a much lower position and move slightly backward. This will give it a lower center of gravity and enhance its weight distribution.
The standard engines of the Mercedes-Benz C-class will be four-cylinder as well as V6 units that range from the 2.0-liter turbo 184bhp to 3.0-liter twin-turbo 330bhp. The diesel engines are expected to feature the enhanced version of the current 2.1-liter engine up to four tune states offering 120bhp up to 220bhp.
A number of efficiency-enhancing methods will be featured on all of the new Mercedes-Benz C-class engines. Its CO2 emissions will also be improved with the kerb weight reduction and the efficiency-enhancing methods of the car.
A petrol-electric hybrid model is also expected to be offered for the C-class of Mercedes-Benz. However, for the moment no details are available for this particular model, which is expected to be unveiled in 2015.
The driveline architecture was also enhanced with a modified driveshaft layout. Due to this, the new Mercedes-Benz C-class will feature the typical rear-wheel drive as well as the 4Matic four-wheel drive system. Both left-hand and right hand models will also be offered in the market.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-class will also feature a six-speed manual gearbox, although nine-speed automatic transmission is presently being developed.
All models of the new Mercedes-Benz C-class will also feature an adaptive damping control. Automatic parking options will also be offered through the latest electromechanical steering system.
The new C-class will also come with a number of safety features that are set to be offered on the re-designed E-class. An added collision prevention feature will be offered through the stereo camera of the car.
