First Look At The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG With Its All-Wheel Drive Option

Peter Parcon December 26, 2012

After the official launch of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class recently, it revealed a vehicle that is more than just a normal mid-cycle enhancement. Although the vehicle has a more aggressive design, it does not have the AMG mark. However, an E63 AMG may be on display together with the other E-Class models during the Detroit Motor Show.

Initially, it was expected that the E-Class will receive some upgrades while continuing to feature a rear-wheel drive system.

However, it appears that the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG will be receiving an all-wheel drive system. The vehicle will feature the 4MATIC system of Mercedes, which will offer drivers an all-wheel driving option. Instead of using an electronically controlled unit, the system will utilize a mechanical open center differential.

The system will give the car a torque distribution split of 70/30 rear / front axle rather than a 55/45 set-up, which is used on other E-Class 4MATIC models. This will result to the retention of the sporty handling of the RWD vehicle.

Csaba Csere, an associate editor of Car & Driver, was able to get an exclusive look at the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, and it appears that the new E63 AMG will be more than just a normal mid-cycle enhancement. The following video gives an overview on some of the modifications made by AMG on the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
