The unveiling of the new Mercedes-AMG GT Concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show gives us a good preview of the future AMG hypercar. Being operated by hybrid unit derived from the brand’s winning 1.6-liter Formula One engine, it is expected to produce at least 1,000 hp. As good as it may seem to be, there is a good reason why customers should opt for the extra warranty when buying the car.
F1-Like Performance But With F1-Like Maintenance
In the interview of Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers with Motor 1, he revealed that the AMG hypercar would require a lot of maintenance. That should be the expected trade off when fitting an auto with an F1 engine.
Moers estimated that the AMG hypercar would need engine work when it has already travelled around 31,000 miles or 50,000 km. Therefore, it would be best for its owners to get the extra-warranty package offered by AMG when buying the car.
Then again, the AMG hypercar might cost around $2.5 million. So the additional maintenance prices might not hurt its rich buyers much as they have fat bank accounts.
Unveiling
The AMG hypercar will only be available in 300 samples. The launching of the vehicle is expected this coming fall. The 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show is the most likely venue for its world premiere.
Basically, expect a lot of the styling elements found in the four-door Mercedes-AMG GT Concept to be carried out in the production version of the AMG hypercar. The changes in the exterior and interior designs should only be minor when it gets out.
