Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 With Twin-Turbo V8 Could Be Underway

The three-pointed star marque just unveiled the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53. However, an AMG CLE 63 version could still be on the forges. Recently, Carscoops captured images of a prototype, which supports this speculation. The suspected AMG CLE 63, despite its camouflage, seems to follow the design cues of its AMG CLE 53 sibling. Compared to it, though, the new model introduces distinct features that set it apart. These include a blacked-out Panamericana grille and a wide central intake with vertical bars. Meanwhile, unique fins in the air intakes and sportier side skirts further enhance its aggressive look. Bi-Turbo V8 Staging a Comeback in the AMG CLE 63 One of the… Continue Reading »

AMG CLE 63 Is Going Back To Mercedes’ V8 Roots

Citing unnamed senior officials from Mercedes-Benz, Autocar claimed the Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 coupe and convertible will be adopting a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. This will be a major departure from its maker’s original plan to equip the high-performance car with a plug-in hybrid power unit copying the AMG C 63 and AMG GLC 63. Despite the V8 configuration’s lower output at 585 bhp compared to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder plug-in hybrid unit’s 670 bhp, the sources said Mercedes is sticking with the new strategy to meet consumer demand for ICEs. It also arrives as a response to the dwindling sales of its electric vehicles (EVs) as well as the disappointing… Continue Reading »

AMG CEO Refutes V8 Engine Revival For C63 and E63 Models

Sad news for petrolheads, Mercedes-AMG boss Michael Schiebe just denied rumors of the AMG C63 and E63 models getting back to V8 engines. The anticipation around the potential return of the eight-cylinder powerhouse has been quashed during a recent interview with the AMG CEO. A Departure from Rumors Dispelling the speculations that arose this month, the AMG CEO unequivocally denied the possibility of an eight-cylinder revival for the C63 and E63 models in an interview with The Drive. Mercedes Slowly Saying Goodbye To The V8 Engine

Mercedes-Benz informed dealers that it was canceling production of most of its V8 engines in favor of 4-cylinder turbo/hybrid engines. This is a result of supply chain problems, not a reason attributed to the automaker’s change to electric vehicles. However, saying goodbye to the production of Mercedes V8 engines won’t remove most Benzes from the market because most of the cars are available with a selection of engines. Up to 17 Mercedes models will be affected, and that includes AMG models. An official statement from the automaker reveals the company is prioritizing to comply with some global, external, and internal needs, including challenges in the supply chain. This has affected… Continue Reading »

Aston Martin Not Worried About Mercedes’ V8 Shortage

Mercedes-Benz is apparently having supply chain problems that have resulted in the shortage of V8 engines for its luxury and sports vehicles. Despite the setback, the company still has other power units that should keep its other models going. However, there are concerns about other automakers that rely on the three-pointed star marque’s engines particularly Aston Martin. At present, the Vantage, DB11 and DBX models of the British brand all use 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engines sourced from the German automaker. The same M177 power unit is in short supply right now, which supposedly led Mercedes to suspend the production of the GLE 580, GLS 580, and G550 Benz models; the… Continue Reading »

Mercedes May Equip the X-Class Pickup with a V8 Engine

Mercedes-Benz revealed that the X-Class pickup may be offered with a V8 engine. However, it only comes under a certain condition. For now, the most potent trim of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup is the X350d 4MATIC. The model comes with 255 hp and 550 Nm of torque. That could change though if the German automaker will equip the vehicle with a V8 engine. Frank Schumacher, the person in charge of the Mercedes X-Class development, recently sat down for an interview with Australia’s Drive to discuss the subject. According to the Mercedes exec, they will only offer a V8 version of the X-Class if there is enough demand from customers for the… Continue Reading »
