Mercedes-Benz Invests $1 Billion For Electric Vehicles in the US

Mercedes-Benz continues to push its momentum in tapping into the electric vehicle market in the US. In line with the goal to produce electric variants of all its models going to 2022, the company revealed that it is investing $1 billion in the region. Mercedes made the announcement during the 20th anniversary of its Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant. The move is expected to create more than 600 new jobs in the area. Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Production Starts in Tuscaloosa Plant

The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe recently had its production launch at the Tuscaloosa Plant. According to Carscoops, Daimler has allotted $4.5 billion from its budget to be utilized in the said plant for the production of the entire standard GLE lineup, plus its coupe version. The amount also covers the manufacture of the C-Class sedan and GL-Class. In addition, the plant would be responsible for the soon-to-be-unveiled GLC-Class, new C-Class variants like its coupe and convertible models, as well as the GLS-Class, based on a report by Motor Authority. Mercedes-Benz Executive Arrested in Alabama

An unnamed German executive is released after he was arrested because of Alabama’s strict immigration laws. The 46-year old executive was pulled over because his rental car did not have tags, and then he was not able to show identifications other than his German ID card. He was released after an associate presented his visa, passport and German driver’s license, which he left at the hotel. The report from Tuscaloosa News also said that as soon as Gov. Robert Bentley heard about the arrest, he contacted State Homeland Security Director Spencer Collier to get information.
