Classic Relationship Between Mercedes-Benz And France

The relationship between France and Mercedes-Benz has been special ever since the manufacturer introduced its first automobile into the country in 1898. This came well before the introduction of its luxury Mercedes-Benz S-Class into the market. At this time Germans did not think highly of automobiles, which made it practical for the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer to display its products at the pioneering international motor show in Paris. The event, organized by the Automobile Club de France, proved to be a breakthrough for the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft since France was considered as the leading country when it came to automobiles at that time. The entry of Emil Jellinek, an Austrian businessman, facilitated the… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz Classic Calendar Marries Mimmo Rotella Art with Historic S-Class Imagery

The Mercedes-Benz Classic Calendar 2013, which is available now, should be a great calendar choice for Silver Arrow enthusiasts and car/art lovers in general. It offers people some neat visuals that will surely add character to any room—Mimmo Rotella decollage-style poster art is mixed with images of S-Class models from the past. Basically, you get 12 images (one per month, of course) of decollages and images of S-Class cars from 1904 onward. Each image was merged together by Monty Shadow, a Croatian-born artist. The calendar is intended to be a tribute to the luxury saloon models that have come before, while also ushering in a new era of S-Class design…. Continue Reading »

The latest of these are some rear images of what appears to be a clay model of a vehicle, and some are wondering if this is an image of the W222. We’re not really sure at the moment. The rear lights’ curves are consistent with the spy shots we’ve already seen for the W222, but the trunk and bumper design seem a bit different compared to the curves that we’ve seen from the videos and images of the W222 testing on… Continue Reading »

Daimler Quietly Puts Maybach Brand to Rest

Daimler AG purchased the Maybach luxury car brand in 1960 and eventually groomed it to become a rival to ultra-luxury vehicle manufacturers Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Now, Daimler has quietly ended the Maybach saga. Everybody knew the fate of the brand after Dr. Dieter Zetche in November last year confirmed its discontinuation. The final nail on the coffin was the new pricelist released by Mercedes-Benz USA featuring its 2013 model range. All the five Maybach models offered in the US—the 57, 57 S, 62, 62 S, and Landaulet—were listed as “Discontinued.” With the emergence of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, it was really a no-brainer for Daimler to pull the plug on Maybach… Continue Reading »
