Things are starting to heat up now. Lewis Hamilton took home the victory at the 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix, and in doing so, also takes the lead in the F1 drivers’ championship race for the first time all season. Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg fought hard until the end but had to settle for second place despite starting from pole position. Rosberg led the pack since race one, and now finds himself 6 points behind Hamilton. British Grand Prix: Hamilton qualifies in pole ahead of Mercedes front row

Add one more Mercedes front-row qualification to this year’s list. Lewis Hamilton drove a superb qualifying at the British Grand Prix as he edged out Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg for pole position. Hamilton posted a time of 1:29.287, around a third of a second better than Rosberg’s, for his third-straight pole and his sixth overall this season. It is the 55th pole of his career, and his fourth at Silverstone. Rosberg also escaped being slapped a penalty after stewards cleared him of any fault after he drove too slowly at one point during qualifying. Lewis Hamilton took home the victory at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix, fending off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. He has now won his third race out of the last four, cutting into the points lead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg once again. At the final lap, Rosberg was still actually in a position to win until he ran wide as he exited from turn 1. Hamilton pounced at the opportunity, but not after the two cars made contact. The contract of Nico Rosberg is set to expire this year. Reports suggest that a new contract for the current leader in the Formula One Driver Standings is almost secured. According to an article published in Autoweek, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team non-executive chairman Niki Lauda revealed that the deal with Rosberg is almost finalized.
