Daimler Quietly Puts Maybach Brand to Rest

Daimler AG purchased the Maybach luxury car brand in 1960 and eventually groomed it to become a rival to ultra-luxury vehicle manufacturers Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Now, Daimler has quietly ended the Maybach saga. Everybody knew the fate of the brand after Dr. Dieter Zetche in November last year confirmed its discontinuation. The final nail on the coffin was the new pricelist released by Mercedes-Benz USA featuring its 2013 model range. All the five Maybach models offered in the US—the 57, 57 S, 62, 62 S, and Landaulet—were listed as “Discontinued.” With the emergence of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, it was really a no-brainer for Daimler to pull the plug on Maybach… Continue Reading »

$500 Thousand Lost on Each Maybach Sold

You all know the reports that Maybach will be shut down in 2013. After 7 years of production, the company was only able to sell 3,000 cars, and according to some sources, Daimler lost around half a million dollars on each piece despite of the hefty $370,00 tag price. Late last year, rumors went around the blogosphere that Aston Martin will partner with Daimler to resurrect Maybach, however, late 2011, the company decided to stop offering the “ultra-luxury” cars altogether. Instead, a new range of S-Class will fill the void that Maybach will leave. If this loss is true, then we cannot blame the company for doing this business decision…. Continue Reading »

Price Increase for Maybach 2012 Models

There had been reports that Daimler is axing the Maybach brand because of low sales. And when companies are in the brink of losing a product or a line, what they normally do is to put up the items on sale and put huge discounts to get things going. But this is not the case with Maybach. In fact, Daimler decided to increase the line’s prices to $4,000 across the board, which is a different business decision. Well, hopefully, this move will work out and there will still be some people who will be willing to shell out additional dough for a this limo. Source: Daimler

Mercedes Axes Maybach Brand

With chairman Dieter Zetsche’s recent decision to stop development of the replacement models for the Maybach 57 and 62, the writing was on the wall for this historical brand which represented the ultimate luxury vehicle only the very rich could afford. In its golden days, a Maybach was the carriage that ferried princes, statesmen and captains of industry on their forays. The German manufacturer must have had high hopes for this ultra-luxury brand, but this did not turn out to be the case. With dismal sales and internal studies which found that an upmarket Mercedes S-Class could better bring the fight to the Maybach’s rivals, the decision to axe the… Continue Reading »
