The supervisory board of Daimler decided to extend the contract of the company’s current CEO, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, until 2019. The announcement came from Chairman Manfred Bischoff during a meeting with investors in Berlin last Wednesday, according to Bloomberg. Dr. Zetsche’s term CEO is set to expire next year. It should be noted that his contract was renewed for only three-years in 2013 instead of the original plan to retain him up to five more years. Daimler AG, through its Mercedes-Benz and Smart brands, started 2015 on a high note. The group displayed impressive sales this January compared to the same month of the previous year. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the two brands showed a double-digit increase in January sales on a year-on-year comparison. The sales of the Mercedes-Benz marque grew by 15 percent compared to its performance in the same month of last year. As easily as the former head of Mercedes-Benz’s US head was removed, his replacement hasn’t been announced yet. Not that there aren’t qualified candidates who can’t fill that position. However, despite former CEO Lieb’s transgressions, the fact is that Mercedes-Benz USA performed reasonably well under his stewardship.
