How will the Yahama R1M fare against the Mercedes F1 car? During the Festival of Speed in Barbados, the 2013 Mercedes AMG Petronas Silver Arrows Formula One car was pitted against the sports bike.
In the video posted by Supercars of London via YouTube, the Mercedes F1 car was driven by none other than Lewis Hamilton. The race car made laps together with the Yamaha R1M Superbike at the Bushy Park Race Circuit.
The two vehicles made a truly amazing sight as they both put on quite a show. Despite the harder maneuverability of the F1 car compared to the superbike, it sure did put up a great fight. At some points in the video, the race car had overtaken the bike. However, the Yamaha R1M showed a strong advantage during most of the bends on track.
Hamilton also displayed his proficiency on the wheel of the Silver Arrows when he burned his tires doing donuts on the race track.
What we personally loved about the video though was the exhaust note that the 2013 Silver Arrows was producing. The engine noise of the car was nothing like what we have now because of several changes in the regulations of F1. The car was one of the last vehicles in the sport to carry the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated AMG V8 power unit.
On the other hand, it should also be noted that the changes in the F1 rules in 2014 was responsible in propelling the Mercedes team on top of F1. The V6 era ended the dry spell of the group in the sport, and to date, it is still the most dominant constructor in F1 because of that change.
