Ever since the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, it has provided a long tradition of safety innovations particularly when it comes to the body design and its anti-lock braking system.
The internal research department of the company played an important part in the safety history of the luxury vehicle. Developing new features and conducting tests, Mercedes-Benz engineers have produced trendsetting safety features for the S-Class of the company.
The safety engineering designed for the saloons is also being implemented in the F-125. This will allow the company to look into a future luxury Saloon.
Passive and active safety features have also contributed to the overall safety of the vehicles of the company. The need for increased safety in the vehicles has also allowed the company to design the anti-lock braking system, which took over two decades to develop.
Another safety feature that resulted from the research and development of the company was the safety air bag, which became an important feature of numerous vehicles around the world. The Electronic Stability Program was later introduced that facilitated selective application of brakes on each wheel even and manage the engine to prevent skidding during critical driving situations.
The other safety features that the Mercedes-Benz S-Class are rear seatbelts, rear side and window bags, the DISTRONIC adaptive control system, Active Body Control chassis, and the PRE-SAFE safety system. The company is currently working on additional safety features that may be integrated in future models of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class giving both the driver and passengers the peace of mind they whenever they cruise around on the luxury vehicle.
