Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe Spied In Action

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe was only unveiled early this year. However, a new spy video suggests that its next-generation model is already underway, and it might arrive as soon as next year.

The Spy Video of the Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz CLA

Here’s the latest spy video taken by walkoARTvideos showing the upcoming generation of the CLA in action:

What Can We Expect From It?

The next-gen CLA will utilize the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) vehicle platform. Besides the CLA, the same architecture will make its way to Mercedes’ other upcoming electric vehicle (EV) models, including the expected plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) and full EV models of the GLA and the A-Class.

It’s unclear whether the CLA will still be offered in its purely internal combustion engine (ICE) variant with only a mild-hybrid system for a little boost. However, if the spy shot is an indication of what’s about to come into it, then, it’s probably going that way, too.

The details about the powertrains of the new CLA are a bit hazy at the moment but it could feature the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with both mild-hybrid and PHEV models for its US-bound units. On the other hand, the EV version will only most likely absorb an upgraded version of the electric motor used by the soon-to-be phased-out EQA.

One more key element arriving in the new CLA is the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System called the “MB.OS”. The new OS will integrate a plethora of additional intuitive features to the already existing capabilities of the MBUX, including artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities for its more advanced driving assistance systems.

Will There Be a Shooting Brake Version?

There are reports suggesting that the range will be the last to offer a CLA Shooting Brake trim. This is in line with Mercedes’ rumored plan to discontinue all of its wagon models before the present decade closes.
