Mercedes Working On A New Entry-Level AMG GT Coupe

New spy shots reveal that Mercedes-AMG is currently working on a new entry-level version of the GT Coupe. The new variant features a more streamlined look with fewer cylinders in its engine.

AMG GT Coupe

It’s only been nearly three months since the launch of the next-generation Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe. New spy shots from Carscoops, however, suggest there’s more to the range coming up next year, particularly its entry-level trim.

There’s no official announcement yet as to what the range starter will be called but the source claimed it will be positioned under the GT 55 and GT 63 of the hierarchy. With that, it might be the AMG GT 43, carrying the same configuration as its 4-Door counterpart.

The camouflaged areas of the near-production model are meant to conceal where the updates will be taking place, but they actually leave little to the imagination as to what is happening within the covers.

From the looks of it, the upcoming entry version vehicle will get a toned-down design compared to the more aggressive and sportier layout of the higher-trim units. The camouflaged car in the images shows some resemblance to the AMG SL with its traditional intakes, simpler front bumper, and lack of fender vents.

The auto’s interior wasn’t captured by the photographer, but expect nothing less than the goodies found in the low-trim SL like four-seating capacity and large digital screens managed via the MBUX infotainment system.

If this is indeed the AMG GT 43, we expect it to carry the same powertrain found either in the AMG GT 43 4-Door or AMG SL 43. Following the former’s example would give it a mild-hybrid 3.0-liter inline-six with 367 hp.

On the other hand, taking the AMG SL 43’s configuration seems to be the more optimal and logical approach as its more efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is already capable of delivering 375 hp.
