The recent Formula One Grand Prix definitely showed us an action-packed event in Sochi Autodrom along the coastal area of Mother Russia. The conclusion of the race saw Lewis Hamilton emerging victorious. Then after the fog of war was cleared, his team, Mercedes-AMG Petronas was also declared the Constructors’ Champion for the 2015 season.
Initially, the Mercedes Formula One Team fell short of the points it needed to bag the Constructors’ crown following the race. That was after Nico Rosberg had an early exit from the competition due to a problematic throttle, which earned him no points at all. It was a result of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finishing second and it’s other driver Kimi Raikkonen landing fifth too. Mercedes only needed three points to get the trophy.
But due to the findings of the sport’s governing body regarding the last lap collision between Raikkonen and William’s Valtteri Bottas, wherein the Ferrari driver was found to be at fault in the incident, he was slapped with a 30-second penalty. The sanction moved him back from fifth to eight in the 2015 Russian Grand Prix rankings.
Although Mercedes was already poised to get the title, the penalty of Raikkonen speeded up the acquisition of the three-pointed star F1 team’s second consecutive clinch of the title.
On the other hand, Hamilton is en route to getting another World Championship. Currently, he only needs a lead of at least nine points against Vettel and two points against Rosberg in the coming race in Austin, Texas, which is happening in less than two weeks.
