Mercedes-Benz X-Class to make debut at Paris Auto Show?

We’re not set to see the production model of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class until sometime in 2017 or 2018, but now reports have surfaced that the 4×4 pickup could make an appearance at the 2016 Paris Auto Show this October—at least, we could be shown a prototype.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class headed to ParisSeeing the prototype at the show means that there will be more than a year before the first markets get their shipments of the new X-Class, but we’ve seen longer waits. Germany will of course get the X-Class first, possibly near the end of 2017, and the left-hand drive markets are soon to follow. UK and the rest of the world could see the Mercedes-Benz mid-size pickup in 2018.

The pickup truck is based on the Nissan Navara/Frontier (yeah, that’s why the face looks like the Navara’s) and is a byproduct of the alliance between Mercedes-Benz and Renault/Nissan. Reports say that it will come in a regular workhorse trim as well as a top-of-the-line luxury variant, but we’ll wait until the official lineup is announced.

We don’t have many details as to the technical specifications of the X-Class, but given the background of this vehicle, it will definitely share many features with the Navara underneath its exterior.

What we do know is that the purported mid-sized pickup isn’t going to get a US release. At least, Mercedes-Benz isn’t planning on one at the moment.

The biennial Paris Auto Show is one of the most prominent auto shows in the world, and as such is a prime venue for showcasing debuts for concept cars and production model vehicles. The show will be held at the Paris expo Porte de Versailles and is open to the public starting October 1st, and will run through October 16th.
