Mercedes-Benz X-Class Tested in Public Road

After the spy shots of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class emerged while it was being tested in the Arctic Circle, a spy video of the pickup was taken in a public road near its maker’s facility in Germany.

Compared to the earlier spy photos, the subject in the video is shedding a bit of its camouflage, which already reveal some of its styling elements such as the headlamps and taillamps as well as the radiator grille. The short clip also gives us a closer view of the bulges of the auto that hint its body lines.

From the looks of it, the facial features of the X-Class resemble the huge SUVs of Mercedes like the GLE and GLS. The rest of the pickup shows a design similar to the Nissan Navara, which is not surprising at all because the X-Class shares the same platform with the vehicle.

The target markets of the Mercedes pickup are Europe, Latin America, Australia and South Africa. The auto will be made in the Spanish and Argentinian assembly plants owned by the Daimler and Renault-Nissan Alliance to save on the development and production costs. The company is yet to decide whether it will offer the premium vehicle in North America.

According to Mercedes, the X-Class will benefit from the German automaker’s new inline-six engines. Both diesel and petrol models of the power unit will likely be carried by the X-Class range. The high-performance version of the pickup will possibly get the new biturbo V8 engine of Mercedes.
