Mercedes-Benz S550 Plug-In Hybrid Quietly Introduced in Detroit

2015 Mercedes-Benz S550 Plug-In Hybrid (5)

Automotive sites, news portals, and fans were going wild when the Detroit Auto Show commenced as the event paved the way for the introduction of the all-new Mercedes GLE Coupe. Alongside the crossover was the Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-In Hybrid. However, one that did not make so much noise when it came out was the Mercedes-Benz S550 Plug-In Hybrid.

Like its very quiet motor, the S550 Plug-In Hybrid silently stood in the background in the booth of the three-pointed star to make way for the GLE Coupe and the C350 Plug-In Hybrid. Despite the less fanfare, the S550 Plug-In Hybrid leaves a lot to be desired.

Of course, there’s the fact that the S550 Plug-In Hybrid is more superior than the C350 Plug-In Hybrid because it is from the flagship range of the company. The styling and comfort features present in the S-Class can also be found in the car.

As for the units powering the S550 Plug-In Hybrid, it has a 3.0-liter V6 engine providing internal combustion. It offers up to 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Then, there’s the electric motor offering around 114 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque to the sedan. Overall, the output of the car is at 436 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The power unit of the S550 Plug-In Hybrid enables the car to reach 60 mph from a complete standstill in a span of only 5.2 seconds.
