Mercedes-Benz G-Class Gets A Special 500,000th-Anniversary Edition Model

The three-pointed star marque celebrated the production anniversary of the legendary Mercedes-Benz G-Class in Graz, Austria, by rolling out the 500,000th model of the iconic off-roader.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class 500,000th model

The G-Class has been in production since 1979 and has had a loyal fan base due to its unique design and excellent off-road capabilities. The 500,000th-anniversary vehicle is a one-off inspired by the 280 GE from 1986, incorporating iconic design elements of the SUV’s early model such as the exterior color and the seat pattern.

The commemorative model features some striking styling elements from its historic predecessor. These include the historic paint in agave green, one of the first paint colors available for the G-Class, and the turn signals in a shade of orange no longer used today, which used to be typical of 1970s automobiles. It also comes with a soft cover for its spare tire at the back as well as a ladder providing easier access to the roof rack.

The G-Class has established itself as a luxury SUV that sets new standards and has a unique character and has gone from a purely commercial vehicle to a lifestyle object over the past four decades while still maintaining its robust off-road capability. The SUV has been continuously developed over the years and the latest generation launched in 2018 boasts a fundamentally redesigned, modern interior, new chassis, modern driver assistance systems, and more safety and comfort for both on and off the road.

In 2024, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is expected to enter a new phase in its 44-year storied run as its maker gears up to launch an all-electric model of it.
