Joining the Mercedes-Benz EQE as well as the rumored Mercedes-AMG EQS and Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV at the Munich Auto Show coming this September is the Mercedes-Benz EQG. Although the latter will be shown in its concept form, the product will serve as a blueprint for the long-awaited electric vehicle based on the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

Production Version Due in 2024

According to Autocar that also provided probably the most accurate render of the EQG so far based on our expectations, the EV twin of the G-Class is due for production in 2024. That should help keep the brand on target with its electrification goals going to 2030.

Mercedes-Benz EQG Features

Looking at how Mercedes was too careful in introducing changes to the G-Class in its 42 years of evolution, the EQG will likely retain much of its petrol-fed sibling’s design particularly its boxy outline. With that, don’t expect it to get the same swooping side layout found in other vehicles bearing the three-pointed star emblem. Therefore, it might feature the classic stiff surfaces of the G-Wagen fused with EQ-based elements for the lighting and front grille like the render shown above, or it could benefit from some of the styling cues of the one-off Mercedes-Benz EQC 4×4 unveiled last year. The interior will almost certainly feature the same mashup in its theme.

It should be noted though that we are yet to see a spy shot of the EQG, so these are all speculations for now. Regardless, the Mercedes-Benz EQG is really something to look forward to.
