Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet Caught On Video

The Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet is expected to be unveiled during the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. However, industry watchers got another glimpse at how the luxury vehicle will look like, albeit in the test mule guise, as shown on a report from gtspirit.com.

A near-production version of the S63 Cabriolet was spotted recently as it was being tested. The aggressive body of the test mule gave it away, allowing onlookers to assume it was the S63 Cabriolet. The body featured brand new bumpers in front and at the rear, which incorporated its rather noticeable air intakes. The rear also featured the standard AMG quad exhaust pipes, which gives an indication of the upgraded performance of the luxury vehicle.

The S63 Cabriolet was described by Martin Hulder, S-Class project manager, as “a car for the star gazers.” It is expected to be the flagship cabriolet of the luxury vehicle manufacturer. The 5.5-liter turbocharged V8 engine, which is also used on the coupe, provides the power of the Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet. Due to this, it will be capable of producing 577 HP of power along with a torque of 664 lb-ft of torque. It can also accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h or 62 mph within 4.2 seconds before it reaches its electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h or 155 mph.

While there are changes on the design of the body are minor when compared to the coupe, it will feature a retractable soft top in place of the fixed metal roof of the coupe. The powerful engine and elegant appearance also comes with a premium price since it is expected to cost at least €200,000 or $220,000. In comparison, the coupe has a price tag of €170,586 or around $190,000 in the German market.

Since this will be the first time the cabriolet configuration will be used for the S-Class, it is expected to be in a class of its own. The closest rivals of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet will be the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, the upcoming Rolls-Royce Dawn and the Bentley Continental GTC.
