Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 With Twin-Turbo V8 Could Be Underway

  • Spy photographers recently spotted what appears to be a Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 prototype sporting a twin-turbo V8 engine.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 63

The three-pointed star marque just unveiled the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53. However, an AMG CLE 63 version could still be on the forges. Recently, Carscoops captured images of a prototype, which supports this speculation.

The suspected AMG CLE 63, despite its camouflage, seems to follow the design cues of its AMG CLE 53 sibling. Compared to it, though, the new model introduces distinct features that set it apart.

These include a blacked-out Panamericana grille and a wide central intake with vertical bars. Meanwhile, unique fins in the air intakes and sportier side skirts further enhance its aggressive look.

Bi-Turbo V8 Staging a Comeback in the AMG CLE 63

One of the prototype’s most intriguing aspects is the absence of a charging port. This indicates it may house a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. The traditional powertrain is expected to deliver a raw 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The setup aligns it with the performance of the AMG SL 63.

Such a configuration promises speed and power, making the product a formidable contender in the high-performance luxury coupe segment.

Distinctive Styling

Going around the back, the AMG CLE 63 features a quadruple-tipped exhaust system with a squared-off design and a unique diffuser, amplifying its sporty character. The prototype’s lack of electrification warning stickers suggests that Mercedes might be focusing solely on the V8 engine for this model.

There is speculation, however, that the high-performance coupe could offer a hybrid variant similar to the AMG C 63 S E Performance. It will likely combine a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor.

In this case, the resulting combined output could be around 671 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque.
