Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance Amps Up the C-Class Range

The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance was just unveiled by the three-pointed star marque in its saloon and estate forms. The new model marks the comeback of the 63 trim for the C-Class, and a strong new entry in the high-performance car division of its maker with an output even surpassing the current Mercedes-AMG GT range sans the Black Series.

The new AMG C 63 S E Performance is equipped with a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter engine with a rated output of 476 hp at 6,750 rpm and 545 Nm of torque at 5,250-5,500 rpm. Mercedes touts the car as having the world’s most powerful four-cylinder engine right now with an output of 238 hp per liter.

The power unit comes with a compression ratio of 9.0:1 and its fuel delivery is governed via a combined direct petrol injection and intake manifold injection. It is also aided by an F1-derived electrically assisted exhaust gas turbocharger for an instant and more efficient boost.

Meanwhile, a permanently excited synchronous electric motor puts an added 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque into the system. All these take the overall power of the auto to 680 hp and 1,020 Nm of torque, which sets the C-Class bar higher this time around.

All that power is directed to AMG Performance’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and is distributed via a nine-speed automatic transmission with a wet multi-disc start-off clutch. These allow the hybrid vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and enables it to top at 280 km/h.

The bodywork of the new AMG C 63 S E Performance is characterized by its Panamericana grille styling with vertical slats, large air intakes on each side of the front bumper, lip spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser, quadruple exhaust tips, and a set of multi-spoke wheels wrapped in performance tires. These are complemented by the car’s stylish interior featuring upholstery clad in Nappa leather with special stitching and AMG embossing. It also showcases the latest iteration of the MBUX multimedia system with a combination of hybrid and AMG-specific graphics plus a new head-up display program.

So far, there’s no word about the official rollout of the new Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance in the market, but a late 2023 to early 2024 release is a possibility.
