Manor Marussia Formula One Team will be driving with Mercedes-Benz engines in the 2016 season. According to the Global Media Site of Daimler, the group will be supplied with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP). Then the power units will also benefit from the Fluid Technology Solutions offered by Mercedes’ F1 partner, Petronas.
The deal stipulates that Marussia will be provided with the present-year racing engine of AMG throughout the life of the contract. That means, they will have the same power unit used by the Constructors leader and current champion in the next season.
The excellent engine will surely give them a boost in the next season in terms of power and reliability. They will still have to make up for the other elements like aero and the skill set of their drivers though in order to become a strong contender on the race track.
It should be noted that Marussia is yet to score points this season. In 2014, they only had two points. It changed owner going to the 2015 season due to its former financial backer quitting the sport after the tragic death of Jules Bianchi. They are running Ferrari engines right now.
Marussia remains under the management of John Booth and Graeme Lowdon. Booth, the team principal, was present during the official announcement of their new agreement. He revealed that they are continuing their technical partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering going to next year.
Toto Wolff said that they decided to accommodate Marussia as a customer due to Renault’s impending takeover of the Lotus F1 Team.
