The Rollercoaster Race
As the lights went out in Singapore, the Mercedes F1 team faced a challenging race, with both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell experiencing their fair share of ups and downs on the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Carlos Sainz, starting from pole position on medium tires, wasted no time asserting his dominance. He led the race from the get-go, with his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, quickly passing Russell’s Mercedes to secure an early Ferrari 1-2.
For Hamilton and Russell, the early stages of the race proved to be demanding. Hamilton initially managed to overtake Russell but later relinquished the position. The Mercedes duo swapped positions and encountered difficulties, including running wide at Turn 1 and off the track.
A Safety Car Shakeup
The race took a dramatic turn when Logan Sargeant’s Williams collided with the barrier, prompting a safety car period. This incident forced many drivers into the pits, causing substantial changes in the race order.
Leclerc, who had backed up the pack, lost positions to Russell and Lando Norris of McLaren during this phase.
Lewis Hamilton’s Resilience
Despite the challenges, Hamilton displayed his resilience. He managed to regain positions, overtaking Leclerc and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez. However, a momentary slip off the track cost him some precious time.
George Russell’s Daring Gamble
Russell, known for his daring moves, executed an impressive overtake on Max Verstappen during lap 23, becoming the first driver to pass Verstappen that season. In the final laps, however, Russell was on the brink of a podium finish but clipped the wall and crashed out.
The unfortunate incident promoted Hamilton to third place, while Norris narrowly held off Hamilton’s challenge, securing second place.
He fought SO hard out there. 💪 A heroic effort by George. Unlucky to miss out on a well-deserved podium, right at the very end. pic.twitter.com/vJEqrLrRrE

Mercedes in the F1 Standings
The performance of Lewis Hamilton that includes him bagging the fastest lap is enough to propel him to the third rank of the Drivers’ Standings, unseating Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso along the way with a 10-point lead. This also solidifies Mercedes F1’s position at the second rank of the Constructors’ Standings with a 24-point advantage over Ferrari.
